We engrave optical crystal, lead crystal, K9 crystal and crystal glass, as well as standard glassware. Clear, colorless crystal gives the best result, because a white frosted mark needs clarity behind it to read against. Heavily tinted or coated pieces still engrave, just with less contrast, and we will show you what to expect before we run it.
Crystal engraving is a surface frost roughly 0.001 to 0.003 inches deep. It is smooth to the touch and shallow enough that it will not trap dirt or residue. Crystal cannot be engraved deeply or cut the way wood or acrylic can, because taking real depth out of it introduces stress and the piece cracks.
Yes. We convert your photograph into thousands of fine dots, a technique called dithering, and the laser reproduces it as a frosted image in the crystal. It works beautifully for memorial pieces, anniversary gifts and executive recognition. High-contrast, well-lit photos reproduce best. Send us the original file rather than a screenshot and we will show you a proof before anything is engraved.
Hand wash engraved crystal with mild soap and warm water, then dry it straight away with a soft, lint-free cloth. Keep it out of the dishwasher, where the heat and harsh detergent dull the polish over time. Store it somewhere padded so the polished faces do not pick up scratches. The engraving itself is permanent and needs no care at all.
