Worth starting earlier than that, though, and not because the engraving is slow: guest counts and name lists change, and the proof is where those changes get caught. Four to six weeks before the date is a comfortable place to begin.
Yes. Before a large order we will make you a single sample so you can hold the actual material and see the engraving in person rather than on a screen. There is a sample fee, and it comes off your final order. For a wedding we would recommend it: a photo of a proof cannot show you how a frosted mark catches the light.
